What are AI review responses?
They are replies written by a language model instead of typed from scratch. The model is given the review, some context about the business and a tone to write in. It returns a draft. What happens next depends on the setup: someone copies it, someone approves it, or software posts it.
This is different from template replies. A template is the same text every time. An AI response is written new for each review.
How does AI analyze a review?
Before writing anything, the model works out a few things from the review text:
- Sentiment. Is the customer happy, unhappy or mixed? A 4-star rating with a complaint in the text is mixed, whatever the stars say.
- Topics. What is the review about: the food, the wait, a staff member, the price?
- Language. So the reply can be written in the language the customer used.
- Details worth repeating. A name, a dish, a specific moment.
How does AI draft a response?
The model combines what it found with what it was told about the business and its tone, then writes a reply in the usual shape for that kind of review: a thank-you with a detail for praise, or an acknowledgment, apology and next step for a complaint.
Review (illustration): "Stopped in for a tire rotation. In and out in 25 minutes and they noticed a nail in my rear tire."
Template reply: "Thank you for your review! We appreciate your business."
AI-drafted reply: "Thanks, Carlos. Glad we got the rotation done quickly, and even more glad the crew spotted that nail before it left you with a flat. Drive safe."
What are the benefits?
- Speed. A draft exists minutes after the review does.
- Coverage. Every review gets a reply, not only the ones someone had time for.
- Consistency. The same tone across every reply and every location.
- A calm first draft. For an angry review, a measured starting point is easier to edit than a blank box.
- Language. A reply in the customer's language without needing a speaker of it on staff.
What are the limitations?
- It does not know what happened. The model sees the review, not your schedule, your receipts or your cameras. It can apologize for something that never occurred.
- It can promise too much. "We will refund you" is easy to write and may not be your policy.
- It can sound alike. Without specific input, replies converge on the same polite phrases.
- It has no judgment about risk. Legal threats, safety incidents and medical complaints need a person.
When should a person review an AI response?
| Situation | Suggested handling |
|---|---|
| Positive review, nothing unusual | AI can post automatically |
| Mixed or 3-star review | AI drafts, person approves |
| Negative review | AI drafts, person checks facts and approves |
| Health, legal, safety or discrimination | Person writes or heavily edits |
| Suspected fake review | Person decides, and reports it to Google |
How do you keep AI responses personal?
- Make sure the review text is the input. Replies generated from the star rating alone will be generic.
- Give real business context. Business type, location and the name replies are signed with.
- Choose a tone and keep it. A law firm and a taco truck should not sound the same.
- Edit when you know more. Add the fact the AI could not know: "we replaced that machine on Tuesday."
- Read a sample regularly. If three replies in a row open the same way, adjust.

How do AI responses fit into Google review management?
Writing the reply is one step of several. Reviews still have to be noticed, the right ones have to reach a person, the reply has to be posted to Google, and complaints have to be followed up. AI drafting on its own, in a chat window, leaves the rest as manual work.
The full process is laid out in the Google review management guide, and the mechanics of posting are in how to automatically reply to Google reviews.
How Replora AI uses AI review responses
Replora AI is AI-powered Google review management built around this. Its core product, Review Auto-Reply, connects to your Google Business Profile, generates a reply for each new review from the review text in the tone you set, and applies your rules by star rating: post it to Google, or hold it in a reply queue for you to edit and approve. Low-star reviews are also logged as complaints with an issue type and severity.
It is not a paste-in generator. It runs on your actual reviews as they arrive. If you only want to draft a reply to one review, use the free AI review response generator.
