There are three different problems people describe the same way: a reply that will not appear, a Reply button that is not there, and reviews that have vanished. Each has different causes.
| What you see | Most likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Reply posted but not visible | Google is still checking it | Wait, then recheck the wording |
| No option to reply | Profile not verified, or wrong account | Verify the profile, switch accounts |
| Reply was visible and is gone | Policy removal, or the review was removed | Rewrite and repost if the review remains |
| Reviews missing | Policy checks, merged profiles, removals | Wait a few days, then contact Google |
Why is my Google review reply not showing?
Replies are not published instantly. Google's help page on managing customer reviews says it reviews replies to make sure they follow its content policies, that this usually takes up to 10 minutes, and that it can sometimes take up to 30 days. Only approved replies are posted publicly under the review.
What to do:
- Wait. Give it at least a few hours before changing anything.
- Check from another account. Open your profile in a private window to see what the public sees.
- Reread the reply. Remove anything that could break a content policy: personal information about the customer, offensive language, promotional links.
- Edit or repost. Google lets you edit or delete a reply from the same place you wrote it.
Why can't I reply to Google reviews?
Google states one requirement: the business must be verified before you can reply. If the Reply option is missing, check these in order:
- Verification. A profile that has not been verified cannot reply.
- The account. You must be signed in to a Google account that owns or manages that profile. A personal account that is not on the profile will not see the option.
- The location. With several locations, make sure you opened the profile the review belongs to.
Once the option is there, the steps are in how to respond to Google reviews.
Why did my reply disappear?
Google does not publish a list of reasons for this. These are the explanations worth checking:
- The review is gone. A reply is attached to its review. If the review was removed, there is nothing for the reply to appear under.
- The reply did not pass Google's check. Google reviews replies against its content policies, and a reply that does not pass is not published.
- Someone edited or deleted it. Anyone who manages the profile can change a reply.
Why are reviews missing from my Business Profile?
Google's help page on missing or delayed reviews lists these causes:
- New reviews are being checked. Reviews are checked for policy compliance, which can take a few days.
- Profiles were merged. After a merge, it can take a few days for reviews from both profiles to display.
- The review was removed for a policy violation. Google says these are not restored.
- Reviews are temporarily disabled. Google may temporarily disable user content for certain profiles or business categories.
- The profile was reinstated. Reviews can be removed after a profile is reinstated. Google's guidance is to contact support in that case.
- The customer's app is out of date. A customer on an old version of Google Maps may have trouble posting.
A customer who says they left a review that you cannot see is usually in the first group. Ask them to check whether it shows on their own account, and wait a few days.
What if a review itself should not be there?
That is a different process. Reviews that break Google's policies can be reported, and reviews that are only negative cannot be removed. Both are covered in how to respond to negative Google reviews.
What about replies posted by software?
A reply posted through a review tool goes through the same Google checks as one typed by hand. Two extra things can go wrong: the tool's access to your Business Profile can expire or be revoked, and a post can fail without anyone noticing.
In Replora AI, replies are posted through the official Google Business Profile API using access you grant with Google sign-in. A reply that could not be posted is marked as failed in your reply queue so you can see it and act, instead of assuming it went out. More on the setup is in how to automatically reply to Google reviews and on the Review Auto-Reply page.
For the wider process, see the Google review management guide.
